Russian Into Mongolia

Will file a more thorough report in a few days but this is just an update to let you all know that WE MADE IT INTO MONGOLIA!!!

We drove 1000km through some of the most stunning scenery I have ever seen to arrive at the Mongolian border early yesterday. This part of Russia looks unchanged from Dr. Zhiavago. We spent all day at the border, playing croquet and soccer with the Mongolians trying to cross over and were allowed as the last car through. Mongolian customs consisted of me sitting in the bus wearing bear hat while the customs officer wore wolf hat and Oscar our pet dog wore the Mongolian customs officers hat. I then traded his hat for our drill.

We were hijacked last night by two Mongolians on dirtbikes who insisted we spend the night with them. They led us across town to their yurt where we were met by their parents and sister, who were preparing dinner for us. We spent the night drinking and dancing (they really liked the Mamas and the Papas) and got to Olgi this morning. After a few minor tune ups on the bus, we are prepared to hit the road for the final ~2000km.

Bus is holding up well, let’s hope it stays that way!
